Help

Short and to the point: how Voxa works and what to press. If the answer is not here, write to support right from the app — it is the fastest way.

Getting started

Voxa is a voice messenger: your own server with text and voice channels, direct messages and calls, screen sharing and camera. Free. There are apps for Windows and Android; on iPhone and anywhere without an app Voxa opens in the browser — the web version. The app itself is in Russian.

  1. Download Voxa or open the web version.
  2. Create an account on first launch or on the site: username, e-mail, password. You can also sign in with VK ID or Yandex.
  3. Join a friend's server with an invite code — or make your own: the “+” button in the server strip at the top.
  4. Click a voice channel — you are in. Say hi.

If Voxa asks you to confirm a sign-in from a new device, the code arrives in the app where you are already signed in (the chat with the Voxa bot) or by e-mail. This is account protection — see “Security”.

Servers and channels

A server is your place: channels, categories, roles. Create one with “+” in the server strip. Invite people with “Invite” in the server menu: a code or a link; with the link a person lands on your server right after installing.

  • Channels. Text (#) and voice (speaker icon). Categories group channels; on desktop drag to reorder.
  • Roles and permissions. Server settings → “Roles”: 34 separate permissions — who creates channels, who bans, who speaks in voice, who pins messages. Permissions can be set per channel too.
  • Server tag. In profile settings pick one of your servers — its short tag appears next to your name everywhere.
  • Boosts. Voxa+ gives two server boosts: cleaner audio, animated icon, more pins and emoji slots. Apply them in server settings, “Boosts” tab.
  • Emoji and stickers. Your own live in server settings; with Voxa+ you can use them in any chat.

Voice and audio

A voice channel is a room: you enter and hear each other. Bottom left, in the “me” card, are the microphone and headphones; right-click them to pick a device. Whoever is speaking gets an amber ring.

  • VoxaAI. Noise — keyboard, fan, background — is removed on your own computer before anything is sent. Your voice never goes anywhere “for cleaning”.
  • Server first. The first seconds go through the server while a direct connection is established in the background. The connection chip next to the channel name shows the path — “direct” or “via server” — and the latency.
  • Hotkeys. Microphone, headphones, push-to-talk — Settings → Hotkeys (desktop).
  • Streamer mode. Hides personal things while you show your screen: Settings → Streamer mode.
  • Calls. A direct call is the handset in the chat header; on the phone a call arrives as a call screen.

Can't hear people? Check the output device (right-click the headphones) and that Windows allows Voxa to use the microphone. Devices are also in Settings → Sound and voice.

Screen sharing and camera

In a voice channel, on the bottom bar: “Screen” — the whole screen or one window, with sound; “Camera” — your webcam. The video card does the compression, so your game keeps running as before.

  • Viewers open a share by clicking its tile and can go full screen.
  • Quality depends on both connections. With Voxa+ you get full quality both directly and via the server, as far as devices and the network allow.
  • Share audio on Windows works starting with Windows 10 version 2004.
  • On iPhone you cannot share your own screen — a browser limitation; watching someone else's share works.

Messaging

  • Replies, editing and deleting your own messages, reactions, pins, mentions with @.
  • Attachments: photo albums, files, video, video circles, voice messages. One file up to 50 MB, with Voxa+ up to 500 MB.
  • “+” next to the input: file, poll, roll a die, flip a coin.
  • Direct messages and groups live on Home, next to friends. A group can be renamed, people added, or left.
  • Bots: slash commands with /, buttons and embeds in messages. You can write your own — see the Bot API.

Messages in a channel are visible to everyone who may read that channel; direct messages — only to the participants. Search is the magnifier in the channel header.

People and the card

Click a name to open a person's card: banner, avatar, bio, badges, what they are listening to or playing, mutual servers and friends. There too: “Message”, “Call” and “Join” if the person is in voice right now.

  • Status. Online, away, do not disturb, invisible and an emoji status — the menu opens when you click yourself at the bottom left.
  • Note. You can leave a note about a person on their card — visible only to you, stored on this device.
  • Friends. Send a request by @tag or from the card. On Home, “In voice now” shows where your friends are — “Join” in one click.
  • Looks. Banner, name color, avatar frame, nameplate — Settings → Card appearance and the Store. What you wear is seen by everyone.

Voxa+ and the store

Voxa+ is the subscription that supports Voxa and unlocks looks: 249 ₽ a month, 1,290 ₽ for six months or 1,990 ₽ a year. It is bought in the app (Store → Voxa+), payment via Robokassa. Refunds — see the offer.

  • Profile looks from the catalog — what you wear is seen by everyone.
  • Files up to 500 MB.
  • Two boosts for your servers.
  • Full screen-sharing quality, also via the server.
  • App themes: apply from the catalog and publish your own.
  • Animated avatar and profile banner.
  • Bio up to 600 characters.
  • Your servers' emoji and stickers in any chat.

The subscription belongs to the account, not the device: bought on the computer, it works on the phone too.

Phone and browser

  • Android. The app is downloaded from the site, not from a store: the system asks you to confirm the install — that is expected. The file lands in Downloads; updates install the same way.
  • iPhone and iPad. There is no App Store app and nothing to download: Voxa opens in Safari. Add it to the Home Screen (“Share” → “Add to Home Screen”) and sign in inside the icon — it has its own storage. Allow notifications after signing in.
  • What iPhone lacks. An incoming call arrives as a notification, not as a call screen over the lock screen; you cannot share your own screen.
  • Computer without installing. The web version is the same Voxa in a browser. Screen sharing, audio and microphone processing at full strength — in the Windows app.

Security and data

  • Password and devices. Settings → Devices and sign-in: change the password, see the devices where you are signed in, sign out of any of them.
  • Sign-in confirmation. A sign-in from a new device is confirmed with a code — it arrives in the chat with the Voxa bot where you are already signed in, or by e-mail.
  • VK ID and Yandex. Link them in settings to sign in without a password. Unlink there too.
  • My data. Settings → My data: what Voxa stores about you and how to delete the account.
  • Documents. User agreement, privacy policy, personal data consent, offer and community rules — in Documents.

When something does not work

  • They can't hear me or I can't hear them. Right-click the microphone or headphones and check the device; in Windows, check that apps may use the microphone. Devices and levels — Settings → Sound and voice.
  • The connection drops or you are behind a VPN. Voice may go via the server — that is normal, quality is a bit lower; the connection chip next to the channel name shows the path.
  • An update won't install on Android. Open the downloaded apk from Downloads and allow installing from this source.
  • Something looks wrong. Voxa is in beta: write to support — in the app (the chat with the Voxa bot → “Write to support”, or Settings → Support on the phone) or at help@voxavoice.ru. A screenshot and the version from “About” speed things up.
